Three Dead Newsmen

I was shocked -- on February 12, 2015 -- to hear that three renowned newsmen died in the space of just 24 hours: Bob Simon, David Carr, and Ned Colt. Reportedly the three men were collaborating on a story to reveal the truth about 9-11. When I first read CNN’s account of how the accident happened, the explanation stated that the car that collided with Simon’s limo was traveling in the same direction as Simon’s limo. Two days later it was changed to read “The Lincoln Town Car collided with a Mercedes at a red light, police said, and then struck a stanchion dividing traffic.” CBS News has this: “Simon was riding in the backseat of a livery cab around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday on New York City's West Side Highway when the car rear-ended another vehicle and crashed into barriers separating north- and southbound traffic, the New York Police Department said in a statement.” And finally, USA Today has this: “The southbound car lost control, hit a Mercedes-Benz stopped at a red light and then struck the median,” CBS reported.

Looking at the photo of the wrecked limo, it seems obvious to me that the car was hit hard on the left side in addition to smashing head-on into something.

None of the explanations above account for the large impact damage to the car’s left side. It even does away with my original scenario, in which I imagined that the Mercedes, travelling along side of the limo, swerved into the limo at just the right time to cause it to hit the stanchion. Now I must think that the limo was hit hard on the left side and then slammed into the stanchion, a different scenario from all the explanations above.

All three men had expressed frustrations about the current climate of truth suppression, not necessarily about 9-11 but about other topics as well. David Carr had recently moderated a panel discussion about the film “Citizenfour” with its principal subject, Edward J. Snowden, possibly putting himself at odds with the powers that be. David was also upset at his own employer, NYT, for covering up the fact that Ukrainian Army forces fighting in East Ukraine were Neo Nazi. In the newsroom, he noticed the art people photoshopping the swastikas off of the soldiers' helmets. The cause of his death, at age 58, was listed as “unknown” for a few days, and then changed to complications from his lung cancer.

Bob Simon was said to possess enormous courage and a sharp intolerance for injustice (quoting Scott Pelley).

If it was true that the three (plus possibly Brian Williams) were collaborating on a documentary about 9-11, I can only imagine that they had possibly decided “go out in a career-ending blaze of glory”. If so, it would have been interesting to see what they had to reveal, had they lived. According to the above websites, it would have been based on some kind of new information coming from the Kremlin. Reportedly, Putin has been threatening to release such information to embarrass the US. I can imagine that, in order to do that, it would be necessary to channel it through reliable contacts within the US, as simply releasing through the Russian news would not have nearly as much impact.
